It can affect men and women due to factors such as rapid weight gain, improper exercise mechanics, or underlying genetic predispositions. The implications of DRA extend beyond aesthetics. Individuals may experience chronic lower back pain, compromised posture, digestive irregularities, and pelvic floor dysfunction, highlighting the need for targeted rehabilitation. Effective management of diastasis recti necessitates a precise understanding of core anatomy. The core is not solely the superficial rectus abdominis but a complex system of muscles working in concert. Key components of this deep core system include the transverse abdominis, which acts as an internal corset; the pelvic floor muscles, vital for organ support and continence; and the multifidus, providing spinal stability. The diaphragm, our primary respiratory muscle, also plays a critical role in regulating intra-abdominal pressure, influencing core integrity and function. Traditional abdominal exercises, such as crunches, sit-ups, and full planks, are often contraindicated in the presence of DRA. In early stages of DRA, this can lead to abdominal doming, signifying an inappropriate load for the healing connective tissue.
